Therapist in Sugar Land
My name is Emily Garza, LPC-A, Supervised by: Jackeline Hurtado, MEd, LPC-S I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I received my bachelor’s degree in Youth and Community Studies from The University of Texas at Austin and my Master’s degree in Clinical and Mental Health from Lamar University.
I am bilingual in English and Spanish. As a first-generation Latina, I understand the societal and familial pressures and stressors that Latinx individuals face. In my work, I utilize a liberatory consciousness lens to support my clients in their journey toward overcoming oppression and building resilience in their life.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a high school teacher and a college and career advisor, which has helped me become the therapist I am today, being aware that everyone has a starting point and everyone’s story is different. I believe my clients are experts in their own life.
My role as a therapist is to collaborate and support you in facilitating awareness and self-reflection by providing a safe space free of judgment for your well-being, healing, and growth. I actively engage in the therapeutic process and use a warm and empathetic style. Throughout my counseling experience, I have worked with a variety of individuals, which include adolescents, adults, and couples, on topics such as divorce, trauma, life transitions, anxiety, depression, and social skills.
If you are someone who needs support or identifies with the following, then look no further! I look forward to working together with you.
